Course Outline

The Associate Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy Course offers students an in-depth and thorough understanding of Aromatherapy, combining knowledge and practical application in each module. You can depend on us to train you to the highest international accredited standards for Aromatherapists.

Our course is accredited with International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA in England) and other aromatherapy bodies around the world. Whether you’re looking to become a qualified Aromatherapist for career purposes or simply to learn how to use essential oils safely and effectively at home, this course will fulfill your needs.

Course Modules

IFPA COURSE MODULES

CORE UNIT

THE ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY COURSE IS A CORE UNIT AND IS IAM, IFPA AND ITEC ACCREDITED.

The Anatomy and Physiology course is a mandatory requirement for the completion of the Associate Diploma of Clinical Aromatherapy course.  The course program includes:

  • Human Body, Chemistry of Life, Cells & Tissues
  • The Skin and the Muscles
  • The Skeletal System and Digestive System
  • The Urinary and the Nervous System
  • The Endocrine and the Cardiovascular System
  • The Respiratory and the Reproductive System
  • The Lymph and Immune System

The course is structured into a 3-part program. Each part is presented in 4-5 part time sessions on Saturdays from 10am-1pm, enabling students to start at any point.

In-house classes are interactive with the tutor and certificate is issued by completion of assignments and essays.

*Exemption from Anatomy & Physiology module is granted if the student provides proof of relevant qualifications.

Clinical Diploma – Module 1

  • Aromatherapy massage, its principles and benefits
  • The properties and effects of 12 of the most popular essential oils
  • Methods of extraction, storage and blending and the use of carrier oils
  • History of aromatherapy and massage together with the philosophy of holistic healing
  • Introduction to botany, plant cell function and photosynthesis

Attendance on the foundation module is enough for those who wish only to use essential oils safely at home, to help their family and to enhance their own life.

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before module 2.

Clinical Diploma – Module 2

  • Aromatherapy massage, holistic consultation
  • Information on plant families and essential oils is expanded
  • Chemistry of essential oils and its therapeutic effects
  • Essential oil purity and safety, contra-indications
  • 6 carrier oils are discussed in depth
  • Hydrosols
  • The properties and effects of 15 essential oils are studied

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before module 3.

Clinical Diploma – Module 3

  • Specific techniques in massage including Aromaflexology massage.
  • Information on plant families and essential oils is expanded
  • Organic chemistry and essential oil components awareness
  • Toxicity, essential oil purity and safety
  • 15 carrier oils are discussed in depth
  • Allergy and substance sensitivity.
  • The properties and effects of 15 essential oils are studied.

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before module 4.

Clinical Diploma – Module 4

  • Differences between plant medicine and orthodox medicine
  • Comprehensive study of common ailments, including those arising from care for the elderly, pregnancy and paediatrics, depression, special needs and massage with cancer patients
  • Olfaction and its psychosomatic effects
  • The properties and effects of 12 essential oils are studied.
  • Techniques of neck and shoulder massage and relaxation are included in this module.

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before module 5.

Clinical Diploma – Module 5

  • Rudiments of business and management procedure are taught and cover some of the aspects of starting up and running a successful clinic including the client/therapist relationship.
  • The exam is on the final day, both practical and theory.

The Clinical Aromatherapy Diploma Course is assessed by:

  • 3 hours written examination
  • 2 and a half hour practical assessment
  • 200 hours of case studies
  • Continuous assessment by homework and class work

FAQ

1) What are the teachers’ qualifications and experience?

A: All our teachers are qualified professional aromatherapist and tutors. You can find their profiles in ‘About Us’ > ‘Our Team’

2) How long is the course?

A: The maximum period within which the course must be completed is 3 years (unless there are exceptional circumstances), although completion is recommended within 2 years. All modules must be completed before taking the theoretical examination. Students must have a qualification in anatomy and physiology.

3) Will I be able to get a refund if I can’t complete the course?

A: Cancellations given over 14 days notice before the course commencement (before Module 1) can elect to receive a full refund or be transferred to another course (HK$300 administration fee will apply).

Cancellation within 14 days of course commencement (Module 1) forfeits 50% of the full payment. If you have prepaid the whole course but elect to withdraw during the course, no refund will be provided.

You are able to postpone the course for 12 months anytime during the course prior to the commencement of the next module.

If we cancel a course, the student will be offered the following options: Free transfer to the next available course

4) What qualifications will be eligible for exemptions?

A: Those who have massage and anatomy certificates and qualifications are exempt from the aromatherapeutic body massage course and the anatomy and physiology course (Please submit detail of qualification)

5) Homework required

A: Students are required to complete Clients’ Case-Histories and Homework in between courses and an in-depth Case-study is required as part of the examination. A formal practical (where applicable) and theoretical exam is the final part of the course.

6) What language is the course conducted in? My English standard is not good will it be difficult for me to remember all the Latin names of the oils? I haven’t studied for many years, I have doubts of passing the exam, will I be able to cope?

A: The course can be taught in both English and Cantonese. You will be given plenty of time and help to learn the Latin names and to revisit all the notes during the course. Tutor are readily available to answer any of your questions.

7) Can I learn about the clinical aromatherapy and not the massage?

A: Students who do not want to practise massage can still part qualify as an ‘Aromatherapist without Massage’.

8) What are benefits and career prospects after graduating?

A: Use Essential Oils safely and effectively for enjoyment, self-care and natural healing.

9) What is the difference between IFPA and IFA qualification?

A: The biggest difference between IFA and IFPA is that IFPA participates in government legal development and sets training standards for the industry in the UK.

The course fee is HK$47,000. Register for all modules and make full payment before course commencement date to receive a HK$10,000  discount on the full course fee.

Students can enjoy one-on-one classes at an additional charge of $1,000 per teaching day.
